Let the man who would hear God speak, read the Holy Scripture.
— Martin Luther

Wow, what a great surprise!  I returned home from vacation last week to the most wonderful birthday party after choir rehearsal.  Thank you so much for blessing me in that way...the fellowship, the laughter, the food and the gifts were just way over the top!  I could never put into words what you mean to me.

We had a little excitement last Sunday just before the service began when Anita Cole tripped in the front of the worship center.  We are so grateful that she was not seriously injured, even though she is bruised and walking on crutches.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we waited for the EMT's to do their work before we began the service.  I'm sure you understand why we chose to postpone our choir anthem - we'll do "I'm Standing on the Rock" on November 13.  This Sunday, our choir and orchestra will share the call to prayer that we have been working on for several months, "If My People Will Pray."  With elections both locally and nationally next week, it seems to me that God's people ought to be on our knees before Him, the source of all wisdom and power.  I'm looking forward to sharing this special song with our church this Sunday.

Just a reminder that our annual Chili Cookoff, "Great Bowls of Fire," will be held on Sunday, November 13 at 5:00 p.m.  Cook up your best pot of red and come on down for a great time....maybe you'll take home the prize for FBCLC's best chili.  There will also be fire pits for making smores, and we'll have some great fellowship as always.  Looking forward to seeing you there.
